Big news for my lovely learners šŸ’ā€ā™€ļøšŸš—

From 24 November 2025, the DVSA is introducing a few updates to the car driving test. Don’t worry, these changes are designed to make the test feel more like everyday driving, so you can relax, be yourself, and show the examiner the confident driver you’re becoming.

What’s changing?

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Fewer normal stops — now just 3 instead of 4.

  • Emergency stops will be less frequent — roughly 1 in 7 tests rather than 1 in 3.

  • Longer independent driving — you may follow a sat-nav or road signs for most of the drive, which gives the test a more natural flow.

Why these changes?

The aim is simple and really positive:

  • To make the test feel more like a real journey rather than lots of separate tasks.

  • To help examiners see how you handle everyday driving — calmly, safely and with confidence.

  • To get you fully prepared for life on the road once you’ve passed.

What this means for you

The great news is that nothing about what you need to learn has changed. You’re still practising all the same essential skills.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • The test will feel smoother, with fewer stops breaking up your drive.

  • You’ll spend more time following directions independently, just like you would after you’ve passed.

  • The emergency stop might happen less often, but I’ll still make sure you’re ready for it.

  • And although the structure is changing, the standard is the same — safe, confident driving is still what counts.

How I’ll help you get ready šŸ’–

In our lessons, I’ll make sure you’re fully prepared for the updated test:

  • We’ll practise longer independent driving sessions so you feel totally comfortable with sat-nav instructions and following signs.

  • I’ll take you on a mix of town, rural and higher-speed roads so you build strong real-world confidence.

  • We’ll focus on smooth, relaxed driving with fewer interruptions.

  • And of course, we’ll keep building your awareness, hazard perception and decision-making — the skills that matter most.

  • My goal is to make the test feel like just another drive with me in the seat beside you, cheering you on.

Final word

These changes are here to help you become a confident, capable driver — and I’ll be supporting you every step of the way. You’ve absolutely got this. And when you pass (which you will!), I’ll be celebrating right along with you.
